Where to store my store?

With intention to create and hand select about 1,000 Christmas sweaters this year, I have found myself in a bit of a pickle. You see, living in Vancouver, BC, it’s hard to find space, affordable space at least. Last month, I had spent my time touring various storage facilities near my apartment. By this time there were sweaters and boxes all over my apartment and my beloved girlfriend was getting a little annoyed. I really don’t blame her, sometimes my hobbies get the best of me. The spaces within a convenient walking distance from my apartment were available, but I had some concerns….

Seeing as how I have only made 100 of the 1000 units that I require this year, it would be a waste of money to take a huge storage space and fill it over the year. I figure the best thing to do is start with a small unit, and upgrade incrementally over the year as production continued. There was a great storage facility just two blocks from my house, but logistics isn’t everything. This fine Vancouver storage facility had ample space, but the manager cautioned me that with the new university students only two months from moving in, up-sizing availability would soon become scarce. Even worse… when I asked about moths, he told me they had the occasional outbreak. No thanks. I need climate controlled and self contained storage for my sweaters. I couldn’t sleep at night knowing my collection may fall victim to some hoarder’s cabana wear breading such malignant larva.

Light Up Christmas Sweaters

Here's a peak of the first 100 units. They range from size small to 2XL and about 50% are light up Christmas sweaters. They are fully completed, nicely folded and tucked in to boxes that are labeled and ready to ship.

The hunt continued, and I ended up finding a fantastic spot about a five minute drive from my apartment. 100% self contained, fully insulated, and no chance vermin or larva will throw a wrench in my gears. Now we’re talking. This new place gave me drive up access and opens at 7:00am. Perfect. This way, I can prepare all the orders, hit the post office, and get to work in time to punch in. Despite a true passion for ugly sweater creation, I do still have a day job. This type of storage has offered me an affordable and flexible solution that will maintain the integrity of my art year-round.
